The Moldovan Diaries
A journey between West and East
The Moldovan Diaries is a multimedia documentary about the social identity of the Republic of Moldova by Paolo Paterlini and Cesare De Giglio.
Moldova is a small, landlocked country in Eastern Europe, bordering Romania and Ukraine, and inhabited by three and a half million people. It is a unique region of Europe, where a distinctive geopolitical history is equally a bridge between the European Union and Russia, and a cause of disagreement in society.
‘What does it mean to be a Moldovan citizen today?’ is the unifying thread of the project, which is both a diary containing the memories of the several communities united within the country’s borders and an inquiry into a crucial phase in the history of the least known country in Europe.
